| Can anybody explain the difference between medium frets, jumbo frets, and medium-jumbo frets? |

| It's just a size. I don't think I can explain it better than that. Better to go play some necks with different size frets to get a feel for them. |

Hi!
Let me see if I understand: It's the distance between the frets, rather than the height of the fret sticking above the fingerboard? |

| i'd say hieght because distance would change the pitch of the note surely: you couldnt change "fret size" without changing the lenght of the neck then surely |

Thanks for the tip. Nowwww, I'm gonna' be a pain in the drain. As long as you fret the string correctly, how would the height (or width) of the fret make a difference in sound? Or, is the difference in the ease of playing rather than the sound? This puzzles me and I can't let it go. Ha!
Thanks man. |

Pereek is right, we are talking height, not distance. The distance must remain the same for intonation. Jumbo frets are good for slapping, as they give a higher surface for the string to whack upon. Low frets are good for smoother sounding slides up and down the neck, and some think they feel "faster." Very low frets will start buzzing sooner as they wear down.

Thanks for all the advice lately. Last night I bought a Fender Standard jazz bass to go with the p-bass I started out with. Even found the matching color. Ha! I love 'em both, but I think I'm going to like the jazz bass better. Just 'feels' cool.
Thnaks again.

Bluesrocker: I predict you will become addicted to that Jazz Bass.
Cool settings:
All three knobs up all the way. (Growls, gutsy.)
Both pickups up all the way, presence knob down all the way. (Smooth, studio type tone.)
Bridge pickup up all the way, other two knobs off. (Jaco tone, also called "popcorn bass")

Thanks for the tip! This thing is awesome!
Keep the advice coming, not matter how small it seems to you. I'm on 'sponge' mode.
Later on! |

Kewl.
The first time I checked it out, it was wayyy over my head. I can sorta follow along now. I can't believe how hooked a person can get on this. I play a little every morning before work, and one/two hours every night. Four or five hours each day on the weeked. I can't remeber the last time I missed. It's been a long time since something 'clicked' like this bass.
Later, bro. |
