|
|
Thanks Guys,
I think I'm getting flatwounds the gliss issue is a good point, since that's half
the reason I want to mess around with 'em. Now the question is what brand
of flats? I noticed some brands are way cheaper than others, are they really that different? Because if they're not really that different, are the cheap ones the better buy on my musician budget? A bunch of brands are already sold out, looks like my current choices are limited to these. Are any of these not worth the money?
GHS Precision Flats $15
Rotosound Monel Flats $20
La Bella Flats $29
I just saw something else.
What are Black Nylon Tapewound? Do They Last?

Yeah, the rotosound or the GHS. If you're not going to be making a million dollars a night, then strings don't need to be gold plated. But you do get what you pay for!
Cheap strings don't last long, and they are generally very average in response.
If you're gonna be doing a lot of sliding and bending, I reckon you should keep an eye out for Elixirs. They're coated with some stuff, and they really make this kind of playing a pleasure. _________________ Alright!

My bass tutor had a Gibson semi acoustic with black nylon coated strings on. It sounded REALLY woody, almost like a double bass. It was an impressive sound, but not really for me. He plays a lot of jazz and to hear him play it, it WAS an upright double bass. hehe

Thanks, Everybody. I went crazy with the credit card and bought a few
sets of D'Addario roundwounds, GHS flatwounds, and even a set of the
Labella Black Nylon Tapewounds. I really want to check out the tapewounds
to see what they're like! Even though the prices were dirt cheap, I still
over spent - looks like ramen noodles for breakfast, lunch, and dinner this week!
Thanks Again Everyone,

Do yourself a favour and use the strings until the need changing, and that way you haven't wasted money. You won't be able to make an informed decision on strings if you only have them on your guitar for a week. It's kind of like choosing a deodorant... after you've smelt 18 different ones, they all smell pretty crap! You'd be much better off buying the first one you tried and deciding three days later if you like how you smell!
Same with strings! What you hate today could grow on you tomorrow.
If you play your cards right, you may not need to buy strings until early 2006! _________________ Alright!

i use pyramid golds on my ernie ball sterling and i think they get an amazing sound and feel soooo good. they feel like an old broken in set after like a week. the only gripe that i have is the price, but the last set i had was still kicking hard when i broke my A string after like 4-5 years of amazing service. also, if you need or want lots of mid range punch, you will need a rig that can help boost it as it isnt super strong coming off the string. _________________ "Excuse me Sir, but do you know how to get to Carnegie Hall?"
