I went to the concert last night and it was wicked! It was way better than what I expected.

Stanley Clarke is my new bass hero! It' s not Jaco anymore. Very Happy

I also bought their the Return to Forever Anthology CD. Love it!

STAN IS THE MAN! When he came on the scene my jaw hit the floor!

Great bassist who does it all and does it all well. From slab to standup, from rock to jazz to classical. From fingerstyle to slap.

I first heard him when his solo album "School Days" came out with the song of the same title. Went back to the record store and bought "Stanley Clarke" and "Journey to Love" the next day! Then I found out he'd joined RTF and bought a couple of their albums as well. I was just floored by how effortlessly this guy played and how varied his technique and styles were!

It's hard to compare bass players against each other and say who's the "best", because music isn't sports. You just have to appreciate all the talent and creativity that's out there and admire every individual for his/her own skills and what they bring to the table. I love Jaco too and his contribution to the bass was phenominal - totally changed the voice of bass. But IMO Stan is an all around more versatile player who explored all kinds of styles and techniques.

I was going to go see RTF a couple of weeks ago, but I just couldn't afford it - not that it was unreasonably priced - $65. But gas and motel and food - it all added up. Crying or Very sad

Favorite Stan song: "Hello Jeff" off of Journey to Love. My old turntable had 16rpm speed on it so I could slow down records to half-speed. Really came in handy learning this one! And Jeff Beck is one of my very faves! He laid down a helluva solo for Stan on this one. Drummer = Lenny White, RTF rhythm section bro' Cool
