My personal preference is as follows:
One 15
or 2 twelves
2 tens is lacking...4 tens is optimal |

| I prefer the thump of a 15 and if it has a horn, your highs will still come through. My favorite rig is a single Fender Bassman 100, 100 watts with 15 and horn. If I need more, I just line out to the PA. |

If what you're doing is classic thump and roar, then a 15 is pretty much the definition of bass. A pair of 12's would also be darn nice.
However, you will get better note definition out of a 2x10 or 4x10. I just added a 4x10 because I got tired of not being able to separate the notes in the bass line in live recordings. |
