So, I'm trying to find a way to make it easier for me to have a cab to practice with at home. Currently, I have an Ampeg 610 (4Ohm), that I keep at my drummer's house.
I was thinking of buying an Ampeg SVT48HE (8Ohm) that I could keep at home, just for practice.
I'd have to shell out about $300 for the 48HE.
I put an ad on Craigslist, just to see what kind of response I'd get. One guy offered me this cab, and some cash (not sure how much cash just yet):
(Unfortunately, I can't post a link to the picture since I'm new, if someone wants to help me out, please send me an e-mail... this thread probably won't go far without the picture!)
He doesn't have too much info on the cab shown above. He said he tried contacting Ampeg to get some info on it, but they weren't exactly sure either, but were going to get back to him. He said it's from the 70's, and is 8 Ohms... But, that's about all he knows about it. The guy from Ampeg thought it might have been part of some limited run.
Anyone have any clues about how it might sound? Might it just be an old 410? Will having the slanted top two speakers be any advantage (I was thinking it might be good for a gigging situation, as those speakers would be more directed towards my ears as I stood in front of it).
I told him that I'd get back to him after Thanksgiving, once I figure out what I want to do.
Up until today, I figured, I'd just keep the 610 for gigs, and just use the 48HE for practice (or small gigs). But, today it dawned on me, I could trade him and use the cash he offers up to buy the 48HE.
How do you think a 4x8 would sound teamed up with this 4x10? It might be interesting. I played the 4x8 along with a 1x15, and thought it sounded nice. Not quite as nice as my 610, but a different more mid-range growly nice (which I liked).
He's willing to let me compare his 410 to my 610, unfortunately, I won't be able to try it along with the 4x8... Any thoughts? |

Guess I'm late here on a reply. How old is the smaller cab ? What speakers does it have? I have used one for several years with a single 18 cab, and the 8" speakers have been GREAT !!!
