| Work on both. Play finger for a while, play pick for a while and work on your timing and speed. |

ermm, i ask you..
You know memtronome. Got many kinds of beats rite?
When i choose the single beat, i need to the "N" myself then my timming all miss.. example, 1 "N" 2 "N" 3"N" 4"N"...
If i choose another beats, it goes BEEP-->"N"-->BEEP-->"N"-->BEEP-->"N" .... and onwards..
(I can catch my timming much better)
So how? what do you guys think? |

Great advice. Playing with a metronome will help a lot. If you don't have one check out this link

As far as pick or fingers....Put away the pick for a year or so. A bass player can do without a pick. Bass playing is all about your fingers. And if you are worried about speed you will ending up being able to play faster with your fingers if you just commit youerself to it 100%! _________________ http://www.bassplayermusic.com

Learn to play everything both ways. If you find yourself lacking in any given area, work on it until you're good.
There are no hard and fast rules for how to learn or what to work on. Take some lessons, or do what feels right... |

I'd say do finger first the pick but keep on using fingers.
I did fingers first but the stopped completely after using picks and now I regret it because my fingers aren't as good as they used to be _________________ My gear:

Thats crazy CQ.
I LOVE to use picks because with those I get better control and it goes louder. _________________ My gear:

I actually find my hand cramps much easier/quicker with a pick than finger-style. I guess when playing for an audience I grip the plectrum harder, causing muscle fatigue, as I can go for a while in practice.
I also find I have better volume control with finger-style than with a pick... I can dig in better with a finger than a pick. But the pick gives a more consistent tone than fingers do... especially when going from plucking to strumming. The pick will give the same tone single pluck or multi-string strum... with fingers, the pluck tends to be rounder, and a strum sharper in tone, since most people will give a down-stroke strum, resulting in the fingernails giving more punch to the notes. |
