hi yall, im new here, but i figured id jump on in and give my opinion on some fender basses...

i went to Miller Music today after school, and played an American P-bass, an American Jazz, a Mike Dirnt Sig, a Squier Vintage Modified jazz, and a Squier affinity P bass...

i really liked the American P bass...it had a really clean sound, you all know how it is...really smooth and deep, boomy...the american jazz was awesome too, slapped really good (my first time playing an american Jazz) and playin fast runs was effortless. The Mike Dirnt wasnt really any different than the P, except its mexican made...kinda dissapointed me...i own a 2002 Squier affinity P bass, and the new one blew mine out of the water. the sound was surprisingly punchy and smooth. no fret buzz, and the neck was thick, but pretty fast. slappability is 0...the Squier vintage modified Jazz...ahhh...i almost peed my pants when i played this...u can pick one up on musiciansfriend for $280, and it played just as good, fast, and smooth at the american jazz...fret buzz, but it didnt come through the amp, so it really doesnt matter...the tonal range on these between the bridge and neck pickups seperately is twice that of a normal jazz bass...the neck pickup more closely mimmicks the P bass sound and smoothness more than any jazz ive played(alot, just not american ones)...i LOVED that bass...it was awesome...check out the new squier basses...theyve really upped their quality...as soon as i get paid i'm pickin up a squier vintage Jazz bass...

best reguards,
Stephen...

That's a pretty bass. Are these all still Korean Squiers? As I recall, the Japanese Squiers were fantastic quality, same with the Epiphones. In general Squier models have a great range of quality, from absolute crap to, these ones that are worth having even for someone with experience.

What year is that Rhodes? I've absolutely been in love with the sound of Rhodes for the past year or so; always liked it, but now I have an intense desire to have and learn to play one :P

Ankhanu I just realized that I never responsed to you post! I am sorry about that, the Squires are made in Indonesia and the Rhodes is most like a 74 or 75 according to the stamp on the harp. sometimes it's a pain to move but no synth can truly copy the sound of a real Rhodes.

A real Rhodes is a joy to hear... and no synth can distort through heavy playing like the real article. You're a lucky man :)
