I think the OLP would be the best choice. I have played a couple of the OLP's that are pretty nice. _________________ "is this thing on?" |

Although lots of people compare OLPs to what they are emulating and look down on them, for the price, they got tons of quality in them. I own an OLP MM1 (not a bass) and man, they kick the crap out of the lower end Yamahas, Squiers, and all the rest of those plastic, toy feeling guitars. Those other low-end guitars have tuning knobs that feel like they are going to fall off and they get out of tune fast! The OLP's tuning knobs feel more stable and smooth. The wood ont he OLP is nice too. Just nice all around.
As for the MM3 basses, I've played them at store and they feel the same way in terms of quality. Sound, size, looks...I can't say much because I personally like them, but that's your own thing. Quality-wise, for the around $200 price, I think they are pretty darn cool.

A five string bass is a bass that should be one of good quality due to its extra string, most of the lower end basses use a four string bass that has an extra low b,and what I mean is its the same size as a four but theres 5 strings in a space that was ment for 4.
In my eyes is a string spacing way to close for comfort, they are both closely matched price wise so it would be a question of playability that you would have to investigate on your own, only you can decide if the bass is right for you,I would save up an buy a Ibanez 5 string they are the best ones in the lower price range, and better than some of the upper end ones as well. _________________ You dont need to slap in order to play Funk! |

I've had a O.L.P. for a long time now, I love it. Its the best cheap bass on the market. Its better then most bass's on the market. It sounds alot like a music man, but then the neck and the body is a little bit thicker. So it's a little harder to slap on, but its great for picking and fingering. _________________ One day midgets will take over the planet. |

I have had both. When I started playing I used the Squier then i traded it in for a Dean and loved Deans. Then an opportunity (low price came around and got an Olp 5 stringer. I liked it until I played a Warwick.
I have had two 5 string OLPs and two 4 string OLPs as well as 1 4 stringer Squier. They are good cheap basses but i would consider getting a new preamp and a different pick up to make it active and sound better. still the woods will not make it sound like an EB MM but it gets very close.
I used to use my Korg effect peal with effect #2 "Club" to make these basses sound good.
I would rather save my money and invest in a used Warwick, or Rockbass from Warwick and or an EBMM stingray for sure. |
