The Bass Grimoire by Adam Kadmon

Using this book and your own imagination...anything is possible.

Wish I could add a link...but can't yet...

It is a pretty cool book, but in fact the first book I would study is the Ray Brown Bass Method, and once I have that nailed, I would get a copy of The Working Bassist's Toolkit by Ed Friedland. The Grimoire is cool for theory and academia but you'll get a LOT more practical information and advice out of the two I just mentioned, and if you really want to get into the theory then you should get a copy of Slonimsky's Thesaurus. Better yet, get all four and a copy of Standing In The Shadows as well.

Bass Guitar for Dummies by Will Lee and 101 Bass Tips by Gary Willis are excellent books to learn from. Both feature light basic usable theory and a lot of great tips for everything from maintenence to live performance.

I grew up on Ray Brown's Method book and have read through it many times. My copy is on it's last legs, but I think these two books are a lot more helpful for electric players who want to learn a lot of varied info right away! YMMV Cool

I still haven't seen Standing in the Shadows. Gotta get it!!
