Entwistle by a mile.
One of the early rock bassists to bring bass to the front of the mix with interesting bass lines going beyond root-fifth and triadic lines. Very exploratory and flashy.

He was perfect for the Who because Townsend's style left big holes and John would step in and fill them with bass licks. Also a good arranger and great backup singer.

Geezer was great for Sabbath and laid down a good, solid foundation. Sabbath was one of the first bands of the genre to be labled "metal".

Although Geezer was a major figure in this specific genre, IMO Entwistle was an innovator who changed bass playing all around - at least in rock. I think he influenced a lot of other bassists to open up their style.

Gotta agree with Ryco here, I picked up Sabb bass lines pretty easy, but when my band starting doing Who covers I was blown away with the skill of the Ox and his style of playing Cool

Another vote for Entwhistle. Geezer is a fantastic bassist but the the OX beats the trousers off 'em.
So does Chris Squire and Geddy Lee, for that matter. Cool
