I bought this same bass about a week ago because I wanted a fretless to meddle around with, plus play it on 2-3 songs with my band. I changed the strings to Roto Jazz Bass 77 flatwounds, but though they sounded good, I went back to roundwounds that came with the bass. The reason why is because I really like the "mwah" sound that a fretless gets and the roundwounds seem to make that sound stand out more than flatwounds. At present, I'm using Ernie Ball Hybrid's roundwounds gauges 45-65-85-105. Also, IMHO, the roundwounds aren't gonna hurt the fretboard with my type of style and technique.
