Is he even a good bassist? Can the dude solo?

Define a good player.... He writes some nice bass lines, he plays tight, he has certainly proved that less can be more (Walking on the Moon anybody?)

You don't have to be Jaco to be good.

good being that he knows theory and has had some type of impact as a bass player like some of the greats like Marcus Miller, Victor Bailey etc. I don't know much of his music so I'll check it out. I'm just wondering.

He was a jazz teacher before he started the Police. He's very talented bassist, to be able to sing and play the way he does, he's definitely God gifted. Smile
