I am deciding between the SVT 410HLF and the PR410HLF.
Money is not a factor. I play in a couple of garage bands for fun about twice a month. Play mostly classic rock. Using a Jazz 60's reissue with flatwounds. I will probably be using a SVT 3 Pro head. Any thoughts? |

Spontaneously I would choose the PR410HLF because the frequency response is better (-3dB) 33 Hz - 18 kHz compared to 48 Hz - 18 kHz. But if you ask e.g. fellow bassdog God of Rapture this does not matter so much. The PR410HLF requires more power, so your amp could probably handle the SVT 410HLF better at very high volumes. Don't trust me on this, it would be interesting to hear what someone who actually knows what they're talking about has to say. _________________ I've recently done tons of reflecting on my life and have come to the realization that my life is awesome |

| I haven't bought the amp yet. If I go with the PR410HLF should I step up to a bigger amp? |

The PR410HLF is 600 W RMS. You need an amp that puts out twice that, 1200 W (at 4 Ohms), i.e. with plenty of headroom, to be safe from the problem of clipping. You will be alright with your choices unless you are going to play very loud, e.g. an outdoor gig. _________________ I've recently done tons of reflecting on my life and have come to the realization that my life is awesome |

The SVT-3Pro is a working horse. Bigger doesn't always mean better. You have to remember that you can run a line out from your head to the PA system of any show you are playing.
I am considering not even taking my cabinet to gigs anymore because it is basically only used as a bass monitor.
I use a BXT-410HL Cabinet and it has the same power specs as the PR-410HLF. In fact the only difference that I have been told between the two cabs is the PR has a little lower frequency response as well as metal casing.
I'd recommend checking out the BXT cab. Plus is a little cheaper than the PR. |

One word... awesome. You've got some heavy duty power there. As far as the SVT3 Pro goes, I'm about to sell one because I just moved up to a 4. I'm using an SVT410HLF along with it and it rocks. The cabinet was distorting because the SVT3 wouldn't push it at high volumes with low frequencies (we're heavy rock, Chevelle, Tool... you know, the kind of music that's best handled with 5 strings and a hardcore rig that will deliver it - plus my drummer is a madman on a set of old-school dw's.)
As soon as I went from 450watts to 1200 continuous the problem was solved. I was petrified that prolonged use with the lower power head was going to damage my cab. Luckily, no damage and the difference was pretty unbelievable. Plus with an SVT4, I can add another 4ohm 410HLF cabinet where the SVT3 Pro won't handle it unless they're 8ohm cabs and even then you're pushing it. |

| Up until recently I was using a PR-410HLF, and a PR-410HHF together with two seperate SVT-3 Pro's. I was using one amp for each cab(one wet, one dry) because of together equaling 3ohms and Ampeg's generally work at maz 4ohm. When I wasn't using my wet(effects) cab and it was muted the SVT-3 pro seemed to power the PR-410 HLF with no problem. Not to mention that on stage as long as you are running direct/mic'd the SVT-3 Pro is more the capable of working with that cab. |

I agree the 4 pro is great with the hlf that cab can really suck up some power ! but the 3 pro kicks the 4 pros *Horse's Patoot* as far as bite growl and tone go.
The 4 is louder but smoother and if thats your thing more power to ya, I play passive basses thats a huge factor also, the 4 pro sounds better with an active bass then the 3 pro the 3 pro has more punchy mids great for that vintage p-bass jazz or rick sound |
