Well you will need a bass amp, you run the chance of blowing the guitar amp, but most of the issues you describe will be corrected by technique, it may be the neck on your bass is a little bigger than you are used to playing and you may be gripping the as you move you left hand making the rubbing sound and you may need a little setup on the bass as for leaving a note hanging you may want to mute the string with the palm of you right hand ( I am assuming that you are right handed ).
