technique

Hi all...let me explain a few things first I was a guitar player and am now playing bass nd may i add totally lovin it. As I move from string to string I am fingering with the right and occasionally i leave a note hanging which i never do on guitar ...I can't seem to perfect a pure sound ...any ideas ??
Also I am using a decent bass and a real crap cheapo ..very cheapo guitar amp and am getting a lot of string rub sound....would a good bass amp offer abetter tone ? I feel the guitar amp misses the lower end and just amplifies any high move through strings ???

Am i right or am I just a crap player that needs more practice ?

Well you will need a bass amp, you run the chance of blowing the guitar amp, but most of the issues you describe will be corrected by technique, it may be the neck on your bass is a little bigger than you are used to playing and you may be gripping the as you move you left hand making the rubbing sound and you may need a little setup on the bass as for leaving a note hanging you may want to mute the string with the palm of you right hand ( I am assuming that you are right handed ).
To sum it up practice practice practice.
