| Where would I go to find out how to set up my basses. I have 2 an entry level Ibenez and and ESP B154. They rattle pretty good on the open D and G strings. I get alot of buzz when I play on the first 3 frets on the G string. I am getting an OLP MM4, I want to get these other 2 set up right before I get the OLP. |

Could be the action is too low, or maybe the truss rod wants tweaking a tad. Its easier to raise the action on the strings, down at the bridge, check for tuning after though. If they are old basses, maybe the frets need dressing? thats one for a bass tech though. _________________ Visit http://www.planetrock.co.uk/default.asp You KNOW you want to! |

A good book that includes setting up yer bass is "101 Bass Tips" by Gary Willis.
It 's available through Hal Leonard Pub (Google).
I got the book for Christmas. Has a lot of great tips on all things bass - playing, maintenence, equipment.
I don't agree with everything he says (like don't slap a fretless), but in general he's spot on.
Hope this helps! peace _________________ Life is just a game and there's many ways to play and all you do is choose |

I agree with the Gary Willis 101 tips book! Each tip is about a half a page to a page. So the book is an easy read. You can also find the book in Borders Books store. There are some really good tips that are easy to follow in that book for setting up your bass. Plus, it's very affordable Good luck with setting up your bass!
If you are getting a buzz it's either the string action is set too low or one or more of the frets are a little higher than the rest. Gary Willis' book talks about this. I recommend investigating that first before messing around with your trusrod! _________________ MutantBass.com :: Where a superior musical perception leads to ultimate musical freedom on the bass! |
