A couple friends of mine asked me to be in their "side project"...they both are in bands already. I will be singing lead and playing bass in a trio format (Guitar, Drums, Bass) doing rock/dance covers. I have good enough gear but was curious if I should look at possibly picking up an 8 string. Anybody own one that can tell me the benefits/drawbacks of having one?

I would look to see if your local music store has any in stock and try them out if you can,maybe bring your guitar player with you to see if you like the tone you get.
that being said, i don't really think it necessary to get an 8 string but if you like it go for it.
