Just saw that there will be a badass bridge for through-body stung fenders. Was thinking of modifying my late '80s J-bass to pass the strings through the body.

Sounds like it would be an easy modification, tap holes with a countersink on the back to accept brass string retainers.

Has anyone done this?

You can buy the ferrels (for the back of the bass) that the strings go into from Carvin for pretty cheap. Make it look more professional that way. Don't think it will help you sound that much, though. I've had both styles of bass and I don't think the sustain was improved with through body. It does make your strings longer which makes them tighter for the same tuning if that is a help to you.

You can get the same minor improvement with a Bad *Horse's Patoot* bridge,a string through bridge's function is to get a bigger contact area from string to bass,a B.A. bridge will give the same amount of contact with the added mass at the bridge as the string through does.

Hey,

I just completed my convert, on a MIM Fender Jazz.

Wasn't a big deal, I used the current bridge and drilled holes in the body and bridge.

The only tricky point was to drill through the body without chipping the finish too much, I put tape over the surface. I did get the cups for the back of the body/strings.

Over all I am happy, and I would say it looks ok.

If you have any questions drop me a line.
