Personally I think a teacher right from the start may give you some help with technique etc, but once you have mastered the basics, then stop and find your own path to bassdom! _________________ Visit http://www.planetrock.co.uk/default.asp You KNOW you want to! |

| Yeah, learning proper techniques from the get go and avoiding bad habits is a good idea... much easier than breaking bad habits once they're formed :P |

| Agreeing with the above posters. Even one month of lessons from a good instructor can make a world of difference. FWIW, search for an instructor that will teach you the basics of music theory and not just songs from tabs. Be open minded and practice what is covered in your lessons and you will be on your way! |

Yeah, what he said, and a little more. I would suggest finding a teacher that is gigging regularly. Somebody like that is someone who can teach you what works in the world of playing out, not just the classroom. |
