|
|
Playing a GSR190 purchased for daughter then is H.S., about 5 yrs. ago. I'm pretty happy with the sound of the bass, but tuning it and slight bow in the neck bother me. (adjusting bridge , trying to get corrected tuning thru-out frets.)
As for the "inward" bow, I began turning the truss rod left-wise, as skimpy directions noted. Barely got more than a full turn before the rod / or fitting went loose. Action is as bad, maybe worse than before....so tried lowering strings at bridge. This brings on the buzz at high-end.
Yes, it's a low-end guitar, but is the rod completely useless in it's purpose?? |

Not much into setting up, but all guitars should have some amount of bow I think, so that strings are closer to frets at neck end than at bridge end. Mrlewp, if the truss rod has gone slack are you trying to take the 'bow' right out? Take it in for a pro to look at, cost me about £35 to get my 2nd hand Yamaha set up, money well spent, sounds like a different animal now! _________________ Visit http://www.planetrock.co.uk/default.asp You KNOW you want to! |

Hi,
First of all never turn a truss rod more than 1/4 turn at a time, let the neck settle in for at least a couple hours and try it. If it need more then turn it another 1/4 turn, let it settle again, repeat until you got it where you want it.
Second, if the truss rod went loose you will most likely need to have it repaired. Until its repaired the bass will be pretty much useless.
