Hey guys and gals out there.. help me figure this out and understand cuz Im a moron when it comes to watts and overpowering blowing speakers (which I have mastered with GK numerous times)
I am in the market for the Ampeg 6x10 cab that is rated at 600w handling and 1200w peak, to add the manual states each 10inc speaker is rated at 150w handling.
So to my simple minded understanding this cab can actually handle 900w normal running power? and my 750w GK 1001RB head will not blow these speakers?
fill me in, and bring on the flame-age LOL j/k thanks in advance.

Nice cab! I assume you're going for the 6x10 because you don't fancy lifting the 8x10?!
Anyway, you mention that the manual states that each of the speakers is rated at 150watts. This would make the normal handling power at 900watts. Most players play in the centre of the volume capabilities of the amp, so 900 watts is fine.
Good speakers, such as Ampeg speakers are over-engineered. This means that they have a normal rating (600w in your case) and a peak rating (1200w).
Since the maximum power you amp can produce is 750w, then you should have no problems with these speakers as this rating fits nicely in between the parameters.
It's worth mentioning that most blown speakers are cause by sudden noise such as unplugging your guitar while the amp is turned on or not in standby, and by peaks of volume such as banging your strings when at high volume. Speakers don't like these peaks at all. Hope this helps. |

My man that is a great cab. I have used the 8X10's for years and just a few weeks ago played through a 6X10 at a indoor Blues Fest. I really liked the tone----------- and brother I play LOUD !!
Enjoy your cab my friend, it will treat you well. _________________ "THE REAL GREASE IS DOWN IN THE BASS GROOVE ! ! HAVE MERCY " |
