The closest I've heard in relation to the name is the infamous Dr.Hook. They're good, but not the greatest, so I'll assume you're not talking about them.

Not Dr. Hook, Peter Hook from Joy Division. The British equivilent to the Doors. The singer killed himself and they became New Order. Listen to their stuff, the bass is always up front.

Peter Hook is one of my favorite bass players. He does stuff almost no one else thinks to do. Nothing technically difficult, but his tone and style are unmatched. Most people don't even realize that the bass in JD or NO is actually bass!

Right on, NeoLarkins! Peter Hook is one of my favourite bass players - not very fast or technically tricky, but (more importantly) hugely distinctive and inventive in his style. I especially love his playing on JD tracks like Twenty-Four Hours, Transmission and Dead Souls, and NO's Ceremony and Regret.

I would disagree as Hooky's "Ric" was actually a Hondo II Ric copy. Never has owned a Ric.
