the best thing is to get out into the scene. you can meet other musicians if you hang out and play at open mic night type gigs, because most of those people aren't in a band yet. good thing is that some open mic nights are all age (but not all) if youre too young for some places. i got an acoustic bass now and go down there and play and sing alone, i don't care if everyone else is playin' a guitar and either did they. once i was done with my turn i was approached to jam with them and i've got to know some of the regulars and now i jam with different guitarist and play as a dou with me or them singing at these open mics. when i first did this i did a song i wrote, then i did the song come together, because it's a song i like thats easy for me to sing and play at the same time. i found a list of bars/coffee shops that do open mic nights in one of the free scene papers here in town. i notice other people meeting each other there and then move on forming bands. although most are guitarist who sing, but some play guiatar and bass and sing. some people play bongos or congas at these places and have their drumsets at home. ect.
also goin to the music stores once in a while and seein whats new is good, you meet other musicians there of caurse. if i'm sittin there tryin out basses, people will approach me to see if i'm available to join a band. it's better than placin' ads in the paper and getting stupid people calling up and wasting your time, ect. |

I think its a good idea to have a "Musicians Wanted" section Because there could be some really good players that dont go to those gigs that you go to, but go to this website and look to see if there are anyone who wants to start a band with others that dont go to gigs. And you can still always meet them after they tell you how long theyve been playing etc.... So I think its a good idea, BUT in some cases it could be better to go to those open mic gigs and meet people there right away incase there really good So I guess you do have a point there beginner _________________

| The distance deal seems to be the biggest problem. It's rare that anyone here lives within even 200 miles of each other... |

Thanks bass411. I am trying all options, even signing up on drummers forums. I have tried playing, I have the drums, but just not good enough, myself. I plan on taking lessons. I'll stick with bass and vocals for now. _________________ Metal For The World! |

When searching for musicians to play with or trying to find groups etc. Use what ever tools you have at your means. If you wish to troll the live music scene clubs and music/ instrument shops reading bulletins. While you go to an established site viewed by hundreds/ thousands if not tens of thousands. You will get replies and from there the rest is up to you.
Don't dis a valuable resource like musician forums, this one is not mature with a big following but sites set up in larger metropolitan centers have a lot of membership and finding people or groups to play with is easy... _________________ Canadian in the Midwest, meeting new people, jammin with my band.
