Hey everybody, I have a quick concern regarding batteries and such for active basses. How long will the battery hold up? Will the bass not work if the battery dies?

In general, are active basses a "hassle" to care for?

If they are, I may just pick up the American Jazz Non-Deluxe with passive electronics.

Let me know what you think.....

Batteries on active basses are really quite straight forward and changing them (especially on fenders) are easy to change and they will last a good few months for average use but the thing is what you need to bear in mind is that active basses have a completely different sound to passive ones and therefor I would make your judjement on sound alone and not the hassle of batteries and such. because if you want a deep smooth sound then Im saying active but if you want something more twangy im saying go passive; or even better buy an EQ as a stand alone unit which you can stick into the wall and that way you can get the exact tones you want. Primo!

Plan a day at a music store and try out every bass, active and passive, and see how you feel about the sound you get from them.
I have three active basses and one passive.
They all sound great.

Batteries should last a long time but don't leave the cord attached when not in use.

Look on the Fender web site a few of the active basses have an active/passive switch which means you can turn off the active electronics if you want, this would be helpful in a gig situation where if your battery dies in the middle of a song flip the switch and keep playing. Although I have never had a problem with batteries just remember to unplug the bass when you are not using it.
