I'm starting to get more and more interested in their basses, can anyone give me a suggestion on a model? I'm looking for a 5-string (fretted or lined fretless) with the versatility to play slap funk, metal, jazz and punk (and sound good in all), with active pick-ups and an on-board pre-amp (optional). I don't believe money will be an issue (I can saveup for a couple years).

Basically I'm browsing for my dream bass.

I don't think this is the place to seriously find out about Alembics. Most of the posters on this board are kids playing Ibanez. No offense to anyone. Just the facts! Smile

That's disappointing, I may have to resort to Harmony Central's forum.

For funk and jazz you could do a seriese 1. I don't know how good they are with funk though and they are very expensive. I would look at an Alembic Essence. These are cheaper basses but still in the 5000$ range. They do have active or passive pickups. I played one of these and it is good for blues, rock, or jazz and probably good for funk.

yea man seriously were a bunch of poor kids lol, and most of the "more mature" people in this forum probably can't afford a alembic nor to they want one i imagine becuase their not very polular basses i think this part of the foum is a waste of space
(if i could afford an alembic i would be getting Ric)
~none taken mau~

If I could afford an Alembic I for *Holy Censor, Batman* sure would buy one. I already have a ric and I really don't need to get another one. Ibanez does suck. Why do people play those?

Just to let everyone know, I am not a kid. And I do indeed play a custom made Alembic. If you are looking for advise on purchasing an Alembic, you are going about everything the wrong way. There are two ways to buy an Alembic, new and used. If you go with a new instrument from the factory, you get to choose each and every detail based on what you are looking for and what you can afford. The people at Alembic are great and they will help and guide you at every step along the way. If you want a used Alembic, save up about 3-5 Gs and go hunting. Each one is very different in weight, feel, and sound depending on how many pieces are in the neck (usually 3-7) what kind of wood was used, and what electronics are in there. Good Luck.

Another dude that's far from being a kid. I would always recommend that if you haven't ever played an Alembic, you definitely want to play one before you consider buying one. It's not like buying a P-Bass and just deciding what color you want and whether you want an American, Mexican, or Japanese model.

There are a multitude of wood combinations, body styles, electronics schemes, etc. I've owned a number of them and they've all had very different tonal characteristics.

Even if you don't think you'd ever buy one or even ever want one, you owe it to yourself to spend 10 minutes playing one if you happen across one. It's a totally different spin on high end bass.

Peace,

James

you can score a beautiful second hand Essence 5 string for around $1,500 .00 USD...I just helped a friend buy one made in 98 . You can find used Epics and Spoilers for under $1000.00

although these are not anything like the Series basses, they are fine instruments in their own right.

and I'll always be a kid Smile

Definately not anything like the Series basses. I am going to be buying a few more next week as I plan on winning the lotto. I hear Stanley has like 50. at around 5 Gs each (and Im sure his costed alot more) you can do the math.

Hey all,

I don't really know alot about Alembics, but I stumbled across them on this site, the link will take you there...

http://www.edromanguitars.com/guitar/home_ale.htm

I have mentioned this site quite a few times, but living in Australia, this is seriously an awesome site (and physical shop I haven't seen). If I was fortunate enough to live in the states I would check it out, it seems like the number one. Let me know what you all think...

Peace.
