Hey All,
I was looking into getting a half-stack but I am not sure what sounds best for my style. The band and I play metal.Example-(Slipknot,Soulfly,Cannibal Corpse,Etc.)I am a big Ampeg fan,but if its not the best for my style of music then I don't want to spend all that $$$ on it. I have a Ampeg BA-115 and I love the sound of it ,but my band is about ready to get some gigs. So I need some new gear.I was going to get Ampeg PR-4x10HLF and Ampeg SVT-Pro 4. Then I backed out at the last min. because I wasen't sure.So if you have any suggestions I would really appreciate it.

I am an Ampeg fan. I've owned several. I have an SVT 3 w/2-15's. It's got the vibe and power. I don't do the heavy stuff that you mentioned but I think a 4-10 cab would be a nice fit. Do you slap or tap? Are your basses active or passive? These are the things that will matter when chosing a rig. Your ears are the best judge. A 4-10 with a 300watt amp will be more than enough for any room you play. You may want to check out Aguilar cabs. They have single 12 cabs that handles 300 watts and are easy on the back and quite portable for small stages and car trunks. Good luck.

| most amp/ speaker companies list users of their products on their web sites. musiciansfriend.com has a ton of links. on ampeg .com they list player and what ampeg stuff they use. find out what your "heros" use and get that. If you can't afford the expensive stuff, look for it used or by a cheaper version. for instance if you want a svt all tube head but it's too much check out the svt with transistors (mosfets). If you can't find the info from the manufacturers try emailing slipknot's bassist as an example, care of their web site and ask him/her. he/she may blow you off but you'll never know until you ask. They may even have a suggestion for a starter rig. |

| I wouldn't use an SVT 4 with just a 4x10 cab. It has a whole lot of wattage for just a 4x10. Invest in one of those Ampeg 8x10 cabs with the SVT 4. That would be sweet. |

This is kinda late but whatever.:p
I dont really have much experience on stuff like cabs and speakers but I think u should avoid using a 8x10, I would recommend using a combination of 2 cabs, like a 4x10 with a 15 or 18 drive cab. |
