| I have the chance to buy an old tube amp(haven't seen it yet, dont know specifications, brand etc.), but I would like to know in advance what to expect, like how good could it possibly be, or if you think i should forget it and wait to get sth better? |

Really can't say without seeing/hearing it or knowing what it is.
Tubes can create a delightfully warm tone and when overdriven can generate great fuzz or crunch... but just like solid state amps, there's a lot of variation.
For guitar, I don't think I'd ever buy a solid state amp. Bass on the other hand, I feel solid state works quite well for, allowing better tonal responses in many cases... of course, if you're after a tube tone, you're not going to get one out of a solid state amp (I personally hate modellers). I've heard some fantastic old tube bass amps that I absolutely have adored and fill me with great happiness to hear... but I'm not sure they quite have the versatility a solid state bass amp does. |

my friend brought it to check it out for sometime, and its not working. , its an F.B.T. Jumbo 600B and I think its solid state actually, i don't know why its not working, but I think the proble is with the plug or some fuse somewhere(maybe it was set to wrong voltage when i turned it on), i read on a harmony central review that it has a 13.5" speaker (never before heard of sth like this) , but nothing more, do you think it's worth buying and fixing?I would be gratefull for any input |
