I really can't see any difference between the two, and it may be that the difference in the finishes is what's throwing you off.
I downloaded the pictures of the two and adjusted them both to the same size side by side on my photo editor and they appear to matchup the same too me. |

| One's 22 frets and the other 20 fretts. Not sure about length though, either a side by side like bm50 said, or a specs sheet might clear it up... |

Yea Im agreeing with CaptainSaveAHo there are 20 frets on one and 22 on the other, but not sure about the lenght of the scale either. Maybe look for some clearer pictures somewhere like at a music shop in your town or somewhere and look at it and try them both out to see if you can tell any differences between the two _________________

No. of frets does make a difference. Other than that, I have no idea however.
A lot of the time, the pictures on eBay aren't a very accurate portrayal of what an instrument will look like. The camera could be tilted or the lighting could be bad or someone could be using a cheap digital camera. Joe Blow's digital camera is the last place I'd turn for perfect representations of anything. |

Agreed 20 to 22 frets.
That being said... JUST BUY THE American. ONLY !!
Just do it. Take it from a guy that went all the way around the block, again and again... and then ended up with the American P,
If the Jazz is what you like thats fine too. But, my advice is to bite the bullet and buy the American. Good ole' USA really makes a difference.
REALLY, just the craftmanship still blows me away.

the mexican factory is in Baja California, and it is a state of the art factory
I see no real problems with the mexican products other than they tend to use cheaper parts. _________________ "I'm not a man who likes to swear, but I never cared for the sound of being alone." |

I find that with American made Fenders, you really have to test the specific instrument to know how it will play. American Fenders use, of course, the highest quality components, but they aren't always put together with the highest quality, making an inferior instrument. I simply blame the factory's quality control. I've played some absolutely abyssmal American made Fenders, and some absolutely great ones... I certainly don't trust the factory to buy without testing.

You can get some really good Mexican Fenders; ones that rival the Americans in quality. Generally, this isn't the case, but the quality control in the Mexican plant is not terribly great... worse than the American. But because of this, some very high quality instruments occasionally slip through. (especially if you upgrade a couple of those cheaper parts)
Fender Japan, however, while "middle of the road" in terms of parts, I find has fantastic quality control. If you've played one instrument of a particular model/run, you can be pretty darn sure that another of that model/run will play almost exactly the same. Fender Japan is the only factory I'd buy from without testing the specific instrument being purchased and have confidence that what I'll receive will be exactly like what I tried somewhere else. |

I recently bought a fretless MexiJass. It plays great and sounds identical. The finish on the neck is not the same but the stiffness is the same (so far).
Will it last as long as my 30 year old Jbody/Pneck fretless has? I'm sluggin' this pet turtle hard to find out. |
