| I know this thread is a little old, but...................... I have never been much of a fan of the Gibson basses. Although, I love the body shape of the Thunderbird basses I would probably never buy one in my lifetime unless I came across a deal too good to pass up. With that being said......I'm a Stingray guy all the way. I'm pretty much set in my way as far as the tone I enjoy working with and decided to quit trying to practice all forms of bass style and just find my own signature. One thing I have learned over the past few years with the Stingray's is that...........Even though they have a single Humbucker(I don't even consider the H/H, or H/S to be a typical Stingray and don't care for them much) they are very versatile basses. I've been able to get some of the thickest tones, to a really bright sound, and the popping/slapping tones are amazing. It all depends on how you have your pre-amp set. Just a little input!!! |

Us thunderthumpers here will take offense, the Gibby Bass rules, go for the Ripper first and then the Stingray there is no law against owning both.
the Gibby will give you that deep thick as mud sound we like to call thunder thumping and quite honestly with the maple body and maple neck you can achieve a nice bright mid rangey sound also. Your best bet to finding one obviously is on ebay, although there is an epiphone version out
with a P J pickup configuration that might be just what you are looking for.

I can't resist posting a pic of my Gibby once again.
although the T-bird is an Epiphone. _________________ "I'm not a man who likes to swear, but I never cared for the sound of being alone." |

I suggested getting the ripper first because you can probably find one cheaper than a Stingray, but by all means, choose the one you want the most. _________________ "I'm not a man who likes to swear, but I never cared for the sound of being alone." |
