How to master EQ on a Bass?

Hi, guys.

This is my 1st post here. I just bought an Ibanez SR300E Prestige 4 Strings bass. I just love it.

The thing is, I've never figured out the Mid range adjustment. I mean, I don't know how to set the knobs without a lot of trial and error. I guess there should be a more educated way of going about it, right?

My questions are:

1. What is the difference between Mid Cut/Boost and Mid Frequency?
2. How to effectively apply the understanding on the above?
3. Can anyone provide an answer that is related to the SR3000E?

My preferred styles of music are, well, everything except Jazz. It's difficult, man!

CORRECTION!! On the second line above I said SR300E. It is actually SR3000E.
