|
|
I play a variety of styles, but focus primarily on fast and heavy stuff (in the tradition of Harris and Butler); most often I play with my fingers, but do use a pick from time to time (for shame!).
Anyways, I need a new set of strings (had the same set on since I bought the instrument used, so don't know what type is on there now), and was wondering if anyone had advice for me.
Rock on. |

Find out what some of your metal bassists use. Geezer Butler used heavy gauge steel Rotosound strings on earlier recordings but now he uses DR Hi-Beams.
See also the geezer butler thread:

PS You may not be able to fit heavy gauge strings on your bass without adjusting the nut, so maybe it's best to try medium gauge first
Edit: I checked the rotosound page and Steve Harris uses

(Monel Flatwound)
Steve Harris signature set. Steve’s custom gauge flatwound set with his favorite West Ham colours on the silk ends. All he has ever used throughout his career. |

Rotosounds are good, I like DR better. I use stainless steel. Do you need taperd stings on your 5? If so DR long Necks, if not the Hi Beams are fine. _________________ I play Warwick and Ampeg. |
