Whats the pros and cons on a Hartke 4000? 400 watts is plenty of power for me, its supposed to be able to contour sounds, any thoughts?

Ampeg SVTs, Mesa mpulse, Ampeg SVT-AV, Ampeg B-15n(r), some Fender bass heads a few others probably but I can't think of them.

Well Hartke makes good sounding bass amps, but they're construction isn't as roadworthy and tough as some others are, but I wouldn't tell anyone not to buy it, because their prices are very reasonable.
You can get Ampeg or Mesa Boogie etc., but your going to pay a lot more money for them, but if you can afford it then that's fine too.
I used Ampeg SVT's with 810 cabs for a few years, but I've been using Peavey bass equipment for over 26 years now, and it's great bass gear for a reasonable price, and is well made, so give it look while you're still shopping around.
Hartke's VX3500 combo that they came out with this year is a pretty good deal with 350 watts and 4 10's for $700, so if you're considering getting a Hartke, then check that one out as well.

There's nothing wrong with Hartkes! Most folks who complain can afford better or go by what someone else says without ever owning one. If you treat your equipment right they will last a long time. If you plan to beat it up(bang it up, drop it, etc), of course it won't last long. I own an old Peavey amp I bought back in the mid 80's and I've never had a problem with it! Ever!

I own the Hartke 3000 and am looking to step up to the 4000.
