I've borrowed a friends a few times.... something about warwick basses always makes you feel like they can play themselves. Get one that is properly set up, and you will only be limited by your own ability
That bass would be a fine purchase I believe

| I was reading an old Bass Player (magazine) they other day and they gave one of their basses a pretty good review. I think that they make pretty good rock basses, but I don't have enough experience to really judge. Maybe I've been of some help. |

You must have a good amp!
It won't do you much good to have a really nice bass that sounds like an average bass, because the amp isn't so hot.
I personally would get a nice amp first, and then plan towards getting a better bass later.
Even an average bass can be EQed to sound pretty good playing through a really kicken amp. |

You can get one in the magazine section of a Barnes & Noble or most major bookstores (you may have to look around closely to find it). You can subscribe by mailing in one of the subscriptions cards in the magazine, or at their website. Here's the address:
http://archive.bassplayer.com/main/sub.shtml
I would definetly recommend subscribing, it's been very useful to me at least. You can also view some of their atricles and reviews online at www.bassplayer.com. |

| I think that there are others that could be better, but as I said I probably haven't had enough experience to tell (I've only played one 1 or 2 times and it was a 4-string). |

I love my 5-string warwick corvette standard! Only problem is you have to play with the action till its really sweet as! another problem i have is the neck starts to bow every few months and it sucks having to pay for it to get straightened. I am playing it through a crappy practice amp til i get my spanker Trace Eliot. Just buy it if you can. ANd save for a better amp! _________________ The phattest bass sounds comes from they who truly appreciate the wave of frequencys ammitted from the fingers through to the amplifier. |

I read your post about not being able to afford a good amp....
DON'T WASTE YOUR MONEY ON A NICE BASS UNTIL YOU HAVE A GOOD AMP!
I put that in all-caps because it's such an important piece of advice, and people overlook it all the time. You could have the nicest boutique bass ever created by human luthiers and it would sound like garbage through a mediocre amp. A fantastic amp, however, can bring out the good tonal qualities in even an average bass. Your amp is SO much of your tone and people always think about their bass first and foremost.
I never understood why people (guitar players especially) talk on and on about what kind of figured top they have... what kind of fretboard they have.... what country their axe was made in..... if their mahogany was from Tree A versus Tree B. Those things are IMPORTANT, but if you don't have a good amp, they won't mean *Poop*.
You want a Warwick? Great, but that Warwick isn't going to amount to much if you're pumping it through a cheap amp. My advice: play a thousand basses until you've decided what you want to spend the money on. Until then... save. And get yourself a REALLY nice amp.
I've seen people who will worry themselves sick about their brand of string affecting their tone. Or the material their pick is made out of. Naturally, those things affect your tone... but those same people don't know if they're playing through a tube amp or solid state!
As for Warwick - great basses, great tone, great playability. I think they're slightly ugly, but that's just my opinion. In actuality, they are expertly made and used by tons of discriminating players. One of the best basses money can buy. But they can be pricey and if you're not satisfied with your amp, you're not going to be satisfied with ANY new bass. |
