"Lazy Sunday Afternoon" - Small Faces

Appropriate. Wasting time on the net waiting for my pizza dough to rise. Sunday = my day to cook = pizza night.

Small Faces featured boy soprano Steve Marriot on guitar and vox. RIP. He left SF to join Peter Frampton and form Humble Pie.

Ronnie Wood and Rod Stewart had just left the Jeff Beck Group and joined SF changing the name to Faces.

Faces broke up after four albums. Ronnie joined the Stones; Rod became a disco guy; drummer Kenny Jones temp joined The Who (replacing Moonie RIP)

OK. History lesson over. Class dismissed. Carry on

"Footstompin' Music" - Grand Funk

Mel Schacher bass = mmmmmm! One of my favs! The guy could groove!

One thing I admired about Grand Funk was once they started adding keyboards to their songs, they actually recruited a keyboard player to join the band.

I've always wondered why The Who and Rolling Stones didn't do the same. They had permanent keyboard players in studio and on tour (Rabitt & Stu, respectively).

"Rain" - The Beatles

Love Paulie's high end bass part. Box pattern hammer on, pull offs.
One of my fav players. Prob the man most responsible for me starting a low end career.

Yeah, my dad had an eclectic taste in music so I was exposed to a lot excellent music in the 70's, and the Jim Croce still holds up today, he had a talent for crafting music.

"Cloud 9" - The Temptations.

Love old Motown soul music. This features the supreme bassist James Jamerson. Man, that guy wrote the book on groove!! And only plucked with one finger! He weren't no slowpoke either! Gettin' all those bumpin' little grace notes and fills in there!

Love the big vocal groups with their fancy steps and impeccable vocal arrangements. These cats were soooo bad! Some of the best songwriters, too - like Holland/Dozier/Holland. Killer!

Do yo'self a favor and watch "Standing in the Shadows of Motown". A nice history lesson on the Funk Bros and the MoTown label.

Final Word by the Inbreds.

Still one of my favorite bands, but they disbanded around 1998ish. Bassist and drummer duo through the mid-late 90s indie rock thing. Mike O'Neill, the bassist (who's playing solo these days, though with mostly guitar), is one of my favorite bassists/musicians and though not technically an amazing bassist, I really dig his style and it's been one of my major influences in my playing.

Check them out some time, there are a few sample mp3s on the site above.
