Sup, this is the Samaritan. I got a couple of requests to post a tutorial on the style of slap pop. The combination of a slap of the thumb and a pop of the finger if played, with celerity, and played correctly, will result in a new sound. Because the string actually smacks on the pickup and neck, there is a loud treble twanging sounding more like a jazz type song. SP is usually not played as a backround of a song. Solos for bass are primarily sp and may have percussion in the backround. With your index, pop the d or g string (A is rarely popped) between te 1st pickup and the start of the neck. It is also recomended to slap with the interior of the knuckle of ur thumb in the same place. Usually, slap the e an A trings only. Doing this in the same up/down motion will get you the best sound.

The string shouldnt hit the pickup!
