Hey gang. Is it okay to say 'gang' around here? I'm in Austin, a freelance drummer/percussionist, coupla degrees in music, now trying to pick up some basic bass chops and score some of the pick-up work in this town. I lean toward country bands in my drumming, and so will at least start out studying country bass (working out of "The Lost Art of Country Bass" by Rosier).
With a minimum of advice, I took the plunge for a Squier P-Bass Std. Model Special Edition (P body, J neck, both types of p/u's, 'mirrored' pickguard). I'm sold on this bass, except the jury is still out regarding that mirror pickguard. Well before I'll need them, I went ahead and found a Peavey Mk III Musician amp and 115BX cab with new Carvin speaker. Really does sound good.
Here's the kicker: Back during 1984-6 I worked for Hartley in Meridian, first in Commercial Sound, then shipping. The amp I found on Austin craigslist is a 1986 model; I almost certainly documented the serial number on that unit and sent it out the door to the motor carrier! Now it's found its way back to me! Pretty cool.
You'll see me posting from time to time.

Hi Rick in Austin! welcome to the doghouse! my 1st bass was also a Pbass special, not with the mirrored pickguard though sadly, thats VERY Phil Lynott! I still have it, tucked away. Love the story, post often, we are friendly enough here! _________________ Visit http://www.planetrock.co.uk/default.asp You KNOW you want to! |
