|
|
I'm trying to mod my 90's P-bass.
I never play the thing because the P-bass neck is too fat and too thick. I want to put a J-bass neck on the body.
Here's the catch...
I have my heart set on a (preferably vintage) Telecaster Bass neck. I'm pretty sure they made one with the 1 1/2 inch wide nut that the J-bass has, but they are really hard to find. I can have one custom built for around $275. But there are plenty of vintage Tele necks around that have the 1 5/8 inch P-bass nut width- which is what I'm trying to get away from.
My question...
Does anybody know if the original Telecaster "P-bass" neck is thinner and quicker than the crappy 90's Mexican P-bass neck I have now? Is it more like a J-bass? I'm looking for something that is approx .875 inches thick at the first fret (J-bass specs).
Please help! |

| The telecaster bass is a P-bass; I don't think they came in a J-neck, as they predate the jazz bass. The Jazz was produced in 1960, while the tele-style Ps started in '51. An actual Telecaster bass was in production in the 70s, but I believe it was still a P-bass width neck. |

| Do you think the old Tele neck will feel the same as the newer P-bass neck? |
