Just a quickie --

Been playing bass since I was 17, now 24. On a whim I kind of just picked it up and said I'd fill in with a band for a while. We became rather successful locally. Learned it by ear, just listening to the bands I liked and went from there. Currently working on a project now -- but more on that later.

I've been trying to figure out Concrete Blonde's "Mexican Moon" bassline for 2 days now and for the life of me, I'm just not getting all the fillers properly. Is there ANYONE out there that could possibly help me out to have it down by Monday?!?!

It's driving me nuts to the point that I don't even want to listen to the song, and it is so beautiful. What I don't understand is this is how I ever started playing bass... just listening to songs and hitting all the notes... but for some reason, this one is giving me a hell of a time. And it's not all that technical.

Help?

Curse you, Jim Mankey, for writing the bassline!

But I really do have much love in these bones...

Very Happy

Thanks for the welcome!!

I assure you all that I am not a spammer, and will post here more often as things quiet down a bit. I didn't even know that boards like this existed before, but I've been lurking and am interested.

So, I guess this is a bit of a rule bend, but if anyone could take a listen to this song -- and see if they can crack the bassline, I'd forever be in debt and it would be HIGHLY appreciated!!

"Mexican Moon" - Concrete Blonde

What a beautiful song...

Sorry for the spaces and don't forget the h t t p...

I think this may be a rule bend, but who better to ask than other people whom actually play the bass?

Help and thank you thank you thank you...

I think I figured out how to play the song a few years back on bass (It's still eluding me on guitar)... I basically do the same thing you do, all by ear. I'm not sure what I can tell you that might help you get it.

I queue it up in my playlist and give it another listen.

Yeah, The intro thing is just a G-A-C-A-G-C-A or something along those lines; the main riff is rooted in A, E, F, with embellishments around the A to G-A-C-A-G, transition to E, embellish around G and A, transition to F, and embellish an octave up at F-E-C (or something like that)

The chorus Is basically G and A embellismentes, and F, with the octaved F-E-C flourish.

This is a pretty basic interpretation of it, but should be enough to get the idea across. Keep playing with it.
