Howdy folks. This is my first post to this great forum. I bought a SWR WorkingPro 12 combo 3 months and absolutely love it. I've used it for many gigs and all was good until last weekend. I played a few sets and then the speaker started distorting considerably. I confirmed the speaker was shot when trying a few other bassed with different cables. I play an active bass (Carvin) and usually play in passive mode plugged into the amps passive input. If I play active, I make sure I'm plugged into the active input. I also make sure I'm not clipping and use the on-board limiter. Today I called my sales rep and explained the problem. Unfortunately he accused me of plugging the active bass in wrong, thus damaging the speaker and making it difficult to get warranty repair.

Could I have damaged the amp as he says - possibly wrecking the speaker in active mode? The input level is never turned up past 11 and the master gain is anywhere from 11 - 3 oclock. I have a 500w Trace Elliot system that I've owned for 13 years and never had a problem like this.

Any suggestions and opinions are appreciated.

Does that amp have an output for an external cab? Id be interested to see if it distorts with another cab - but if it is the driver, its hard to tell what would cause it to blow... could have been a defective driver if its only 3 months old.

An update - the music store I bought the amp at agreed to do warranty work on the amp. Unfortunately they had to send it down to SWR in the states. I won't see it for several weeks but at least it will be fixed.
