I'm in the UK and recently bought an Ampeg SVT-6 Pro from the US. I sent it to authorised Ampeg repair people to do a voltage conversion.

It arrived in today and all seems fine, except... after around 10 minutes, the fan gets quite noisy. I dread the thought of playing a quiet song live as it sounds like someone vacuuming.

Is this normal or is there something wrong with the fans?

Hey mildmanofrock,

I experienced the same thing. I'm going to take it to the store and ask the salesman who sold me the unit sometime next month. I will keep you posted.

Cheers,
Dorian

Hey mildmanofrock,

Ok I've taken my 6pro in the store and asked the bass center guy there and he said this is normal. He also told me the SVT-CL & the SVT-2PRO are pretty much the same in terms of fan noise level. Actually, when I'm in the store, I can barely notice the noise unless I get very very close to the unit (like almost sniffing the back of the amp), and at that time no one is playing anything except us! So I guess in a band setting this is perfectly fine. Afterall, fans in amps tend to make noises.

Hope this helps.

Cheers,
Dorian

Thanks for letting me know, Dorian. Guess I'll stop being paranoid now! It's bloody noisy in my bedroom, but yep, I think you're right about it being unnoticeable in a live environment.

Cheers for taking the time to check this out and post your findings!

All the best

Steve

No problem! Is good to find out. That's just the nature of the beast, is more than an art than science. I still love my SVT-6PRO to death! Laughing

No problem - but I only wear that stuff at weekends.

You're right about the cooperation here. Bloody marvellous.

Cheers!
