I'm selling an early-mid 1940's Kay Upright Acoustic Bass serial number 6519. It is refinished and is in really good shape for its age, the neck has had some repairs done but it was done well and is solid and stable. it has no cracks but has some chips around the edges (being from the 40s) It sounds fabulous for its age.
I had it appraised by a string specialist who said its worth $1500 but I'm asking $1200, shipping additional. He was impressed with the original tuners and ears but noted that it’s not the original tail piece. he did say it was sinking slightly near the bridge, but said that was common for basses from this era. he said that had the work he’d do is replace the strings and replace the tail piece with ebony, and other than further esthetic work it was in good shape.
I'm in Buffalo, NY and am willing to drive a fair distance to save on shipping costs. we can probably work something out, otherwise I can have it packed up very well, but I'd imagine it'd be costly to ship through the mail.
