What kind of foam is used for a mute? Where do you get it?

I *think* it's a high density foam rubber... but I'm not sure and I have no idea where to get it.

I've used all sorts of random chunks of foam and rubber as a mute. Swap out on your personal preference _________________ Drew Allgoewer

Some basses and guitars, notably older Fenders, came with a bridge cover that included a mute. I assume they worked much like a palm mute, but I'm not entirely certain, I've never seen one in action.

I don't think all of them did, but some. A lot of them were just simply covers.
