so just when were the glory days of music? what era or what generation would you have liked to grow up in just to experience the music?...
i'd like to go back to the 70's and experience what i think was the era for unrivaled rock music. I also think that bands and artists like wolfmother or lenny kravitz or black summer crush (which is a relatively new band that's making an impact....www.myspace.com/theblacksummercrush) are paving the way for retro rock to make a come back. because we rock fans all know that somewhere in our ipod we have led zep albums stored for when we get sick of some of this new junk out here today. i think that these bands bring a fresh new look on something that sounds familiar without risking their own originality.... any thoughts? |

| 70's or 80's, when metal began, until the mid-90's i think music created then was still good, after that it just took the down ride |

I've heard people think the music they grew up with is the "glory years". That would be true in my case. Growing up my parents were Beats, so I was listening to Mingus and Miles and Parker. Also lots of the hot big bands like Woody (my fav! featuring Chubby Jackson on DB), Basie, the Duke and Kenton.
In '64 all that changed when The Beatles appeared on Ed Sullivan. From then on my house rocked with the Who,Stones, Dead, the Byrds, Floyd, Supremes, Iemps, Smokey, etc. Radio was way less categorized so you'd hear rock, pop and soul on all the hip stations. So the 60s were an awesome, exciting musical time where everyday you'd hear new original and creative stuff.
The music of each decade has been great but I think I grew up during a really exciting period. I wouldn't trade it for any other time.
I still love big band music and wish I could have participated in that because playing in a big band is an out and out gas - very powerful. But I wouldn't trade. I'm a rocker at heart and have loved playing it all!peace _________________ Life is just a game and there's many ways to play and all you do is choose |

The supposed glory years was when rock music was being explored for the first time. It was a frontier. Metal came raging through the scene and the the scourge of Disco ruled the land like a dark plague.
Then in Seattle a kick *Horse's Patoot* grunge band blew it wide open and started it all over again. Music cycles through it's phases good and bad. I loved the big heavy guitar bands of the eighties they were awesome but the over commercialized themselves and went away.
Now the next generation of musicians are carving their own niche and don't sell them short, Ozzy, BLS, Juda Priest and Iron Maiden are still going strong.
New music may just surprise you just like it surprised many people in the 50-60s! Just keep playing, rockin and don't dis any artists hard work. You just don't have to listen to it. Easy huh! _________________ Canadian in the Midwest, meeting new people, jammin with my band. Love your own music because someone has to! |
