|
|
| My brother and I are into Metal and anything that rocks. I play guitar and have a pedal made especially for my style, but my brother wants a pedal that will give him the Rob Zombie or Disturbed guitar sound, but for the bass. Does anyone know of a pedal for the bass that offers this sound? I'd really appreciate any feedback; I know next to nothing about this stuff. I would also like to mention that, if there are no pedals made exclusively for the bass, I am not aware of this. |

| From what I know Disturbed's guitarist uses digitech pedals, i'm not aware what the bassist uses, but most popular brands IMO are Korg, Boss, Digitech, Zoom. Most bass pedals offer effects similar to those of guitar pedals but generally they're not used extensively by most bassists |

the Boss Bass Chorus is a very good pedal for bass---tweakable for just that right effect you want.
Believe it or not, I personally find the guitar Boss Blues Driver, BD-2, excellent for a bass as a super overdrive tone that can even go into a crunch and does not lose the lows. I'd probably never have bought one but got offered one for only $30 (US) and I have it on now a lot. I've had the Moog Moogerfooger 105B for Bass but sold it--lots of minuses for very few pluses IMHO.
I AM interested in the Boss ME-20B, 50B or GT-6B. Anyone have some experience on these---I am looking for the best one compared to the price---I mean, is the GT model worth the other large amount of money over the 20B for a bunch of effects I would not use?
Whew--sorry for the long wind. |

HA nice call, been thinking about the ME20B myself since I read a decent review in Bass guitar magazine, awaiting stocks hereabouts! _________________ Visit http://www.planetrock.co.uk/default.asp You KNOW you want to! |

| I'm thinking of picking up a tube guitar rig and doing a "blend" of both sounds...but hauling that stuff around for gigs would be a pain. Anybody doing that? |

|
|
Hey JHM----Pardon the length coming but let me explain:
As a matter of fact, I do often use BOTH a bass amp and a guitar amp together. Specifically, I run my chain up to my Laney MXd120 guitar head and include its modeling effects in my chain and then all into my Laney RB9 (300 watt) amp. Luckily my floor pedals all run silent as well. Let me say I first contacted the techs at Laney and asked. They said it was just fine as long as I was not cranking the guitar head. So I use it mainly for the reverb/delay and crunch overdrive function (levels for those particular effects are set med to high) yet keep the gain only at about 2 - 2 1/2. Then I can get that signal as loud as I want from my bass amp volume with no distortion of the desired effect. I've yet to find a better reverb/delay than what the gtr amp is giving me (plus about 10 other effects I WISH Laney would replicate in floor pedals!).
Why do I do it?--cuz its fun and I can get some fun tones going. Stacking the preamps seems to have no undesired effect either. I cannot speak to what would happen using other amp models--I just know the Laneys work great together. And hassle....not much hassle---just one extra head to carry. |

Sounds cool! Laney's aren't that abundant out here but it's definately food for thought...I feel GAS coming on... . |

| Well, Laney's can be found on eBay dealers or a couple dealers here in the USA. Check their site also. Considered as a mid-priced brand, the stuff is just plain rock solid and I'll go with a Laney any day. Not saying they are the best in the world ---just that they are VERY VERY good for the bucks IMHO--much better than most in the same price range I've tried. Sure if I could afford the top Crown power amp and the best parametric EQ and then all thru a Bassoon bottom--I'd do that. But, since I cannot---I'll stay with my Laneys! |

oh yeah...The Boss Bass Overdrive pedal has a ton of "guitarish" qualities.
Laney...I'll keep my eyes open...Anybody seen what Kroger from Nickleback is doing? it's insane...but he has cash and endorsements. It's about midway down this article.

Gotta love it---and don't you dig the way Laney gets out a good manual on their gear! Nice rig---I tell ya, never get rid of it.

Just listened to your soundclips dude, that 1st one is the mutts!!! very evocative, loved it. Not really into distortion much, it masks what you're playing on the 2nd one too much for my taste, buts its obvious you know your stuff!
Gratz bud, very good work! _________________ Visit http://www.planetrock.co.uk/default.asp You KNOW you want to! |
