Yes... and as someone who was coerced into learning R/H when I was a leftie for everything else, I find it astounding in fact!
Maybe you are ambidextrous?
Whatever - I sure wish my natural hand had have preferred to be on the fret-board!
I had problems with timing and keeping the beat until I recently changed over to my natural side.

No... I guess I'm in the minority on this one??

My friend Roger, of whom I didn't meet until high school, played a 'righthanded guitar, upside down, lefthanded!!

As he told the story; he's left-handed, but learned to play guitar from watching a right-handed player and 'mirroring' what he saw on a right-handed guitar... he couldn't afford a left-handed guitar.

If you're familiar with some of the older Allan Holdsworth - w/Tony Williams or Bill Bruford and Jeff Berlin, that's the style he played... watching him do it upside down was just a hoot!!

No. In fact it makes more sense to play the way you are now. The low notes/strings should be on the bottom! The visualization of moving hands up when going to a lower note is skewed. Plus, your right 5 fingers are prolly more limber and since most people only use two to pluck the strings, this also is kinda bass-ackwards.
Consider yourself fortunate and at an advantage. I'll hand it to the rest of the musicians, though, doing a super job of playing the, supposed, correct way.

Not goofy at all! I'm right handed, but just seem to stall if I try to play a guitar right handed. Impossible. I play lefty.

A lot of right handed people who are left eye dominant, do some things lefty that require sighting. That doesn't have anything to do with guitars. Go figure.

I'm a lefty, except for golf and guitars. It never occured to me to try swinging or playing left-handed. I just picked up a guitar, and started learning to play, right-handed. Same with the golf clubs. I do think that leftys develope a degree of ambidexterous ability by necessity, since so many items and tools are made for right-handers.

wouldnt a lefty be better off playing a right handed guitar or bass because their left (fretting) hand would have better dexterity and would be faster? sounds logical to me...

GreyFox: That's exactly what I thought, once I started thinking about it. The left hand does the heavy, dextrous, detailed work, so I like using it on the neck.

I'm left handed at everything, but was forced to play guitar right handed when I started, cause I didn't want to buy my own leftie set up. Same thing with bass, and I've found it alot easier, cause my strong hand is on the frets, which really helps with faster songs. It was harder to start out, but I'm glad I did cause its easier to play this way, and right handed basses are alot easier to find.

i first started out playing guitar. I am a leftie and wanted a left handed guitar. Not only are they like $100 more than right handed guitars (at least) but i could only grab and use MY guitar. that means if i am at a party and a tune comes on i wouldn't be able to say "give me that acoustic you got lying around i can play this song..." So my parents (my dad plays guitar and has decent gear) as well as the guy at the music store decieded that i am going to suck anyways, mind as well suck right handed... so i did....
i thought like you guys that if i am a lefty, shouldnt i have killer frettign hands? Oh no. i had to bust my butt off to get decent.... also, my pick hand was terrible. i could't pick for the life of me. i had to work mad hard to get good. now i converted to bass and i am way better at this instrument. this is the instrument for me. I use my fingers now so that i can get better control of the strings and now i am up to using like 3 finger playing if need be and working on all 4 fingers.
Anyways, it is a right handed world we live in!
