The thing is, I think i can teach myself to play (with the help of websites/books) but i dont know where to begin when buying a bass. And since im only 16 i dont exactly have money to spare. I saw this "gigbag" thing and it was like a Squier Affinity P-Bass with a Squier BP-15 amplifier and a cable along with like instructional videos.ANd its good cuz its really affordable. But i need to know if this bass is any good for a beginner or is it good quality or what? Cuz i dont want to waste my money. But i also cant spend my money on a $700 bass.
thanks for the help,
stephanie

Steph, the gig bag thing from Fender or Ibanez is great for a beginner. It is perfect for you.Its not much cash so if you fall out of it, the investment is small. If you stay with it though, you will want a better bass as you get better. Its a start. We all have to start somewhere..............Good Luck......Dr.

ur best chance for getting a cheap guitar is buying a used or vintage one. My electric bass is used, but it works fine. It's not the same as having something that is totally urs, but it is a good start. A b15 amp is also a pretty good start. Teaching urself how to play can get tricky. just fine some1 who can teach u a few chords then u shud be okay. good kuck

Those beginner kits are the best IMHO. you get everything you need to begin playing. The manufacturer barely make a profit on them if any. But the figure if you get a fender squire now, one day you'll get a fender jazz and they'll make thier money back. In the meantime thier a phenominal bargain. And for what its worth...t he Fender Squire although it is thier cheap line of basses still have that distinct fender sound. I really like them for the price.
