My first bass got flogged (stolen) from school. Left it there overnight 'coz we had an arts festival the following evening, and it was just easier to leave everything set up. Piece of junk anyway.
First good bass I ever owned... well, that ended up being sold for some smack. Would I buy it back today? Probably not. The one I got now is heaps better. _________________ Alright!

ANYWAY...
My first bass was also a Washburn (XB100). I thought it was great for the money. I've had 4 different basses since that one (each a step up from the last--almost all purchased on E-bay).
I don't get too attached to basses. I am ALWAYS looking at new things.
I don't know why this is. I really do want the bass that I can grow old with. You know, the one that gets all beat up, but sounds even better. The one you give to your grandchildren just before you die and tell them how priceless it is...then they sell it for some smack.
That's the bass I want.
My current bass is a 5-string MIM Fender Jazz. I love the tone (again--for the price) and don't plan to get rid of it anytime soon. _________________ "But God demonstrates His own love toward us, in that while we were yet sinners, Christ died for us." Romans 5:8 |

Same. Especially considering what I paid for it. _________________ Who is John Galt? |

I don't know how I feel about having a 40 year old bass hanging around. I reckon if I do hold onto a bass for that long, it would be more for sentimental reasons. I am not one to upgrade regularly; something really has to be ver appealing for me to consider replacing something that I'm already happy with, so I can't ever consider myself keeping something that I am no longer happy with.
Just me. _________________ Alright!

Still have my first bass -- it will have it's fortieth birthday next year. Would I sell? -- Not a chance. I got it when it was about 4 or 5 years old, and I guess there is some sentimental value attached. But more over, it's the type of bass that as I looked to upgrade or change style over the years, I ended up going back to that bass in the end. I just like it. Granted, it's worth a pretty penny now, however, that isn't a factor.
The decision to sell lies with you. Are you the type that even though you're tired of it now and want a change, will you end up missing it, say, a year from now? Or is it simply a means to make music with and nothing more to you. Perhaps if I had gotten a Squire right off the bat all those years ago I wouldn't feel like I do now. I would have upgraded that sucker within a year.
So... It all depends on the particular bass and you're affinity to it. Good Luck. _________________ ....ain't happy unless the airport calls to complain about the noise...... |

I smashed my first bass (washburn xb100) against a fence... is it a crime? it was a pretty cheap piece of wood...
I got really pissed off and wanted to quit music totally.. But then i got the feel for it again and bought a Warwick Dolphin... And i dont regret it to this day, 2 and a half years later.. _________________ Warwick Dolphin SN5 TCS

my first bass was a kent p bass copy it was a piece of junk, i traded it for a Hondo II ric copy, i loved that thing but it was stolen, i used the insurance money to buy my third bass a Gibson RD Artist, I have owned it for 23 years and I will never sell this one, I don't play it as much as I used to,but it is the flagship of my collection.
