I've been dabbling in Bass for about 10 years, preferring fingerstyle guitar, but every once in a while some friends need a bass player & call me up. Anyway, one of them asked me if I knew what a bass roll was, and I told him to ask the drummer. Is there some new technique called a Bass Roll? Question

Hey there,
if it is what i'm thinking then its a style of playing originating in spainish guitar playing. Abe Laboreil is a originator of the technique, you flick your fingers (all 4) accross the strings like your flicking a marble, from under your thumb, striking the strings in rapid sucession. Its not an easy thing to do.

Ahh!!! That's cool.
I been doing that for years! Good for muted (ghost, dead, etc) notes, and for making yourself sound real busy!!!

I just call it 'playing with all four fingers on my right hand', not a bass roll!
