| Hey kids, I'm new here. As I was reading over some posts the question came to me, how many people here learned from a teacher or on their own, or like myself both. I know I taught myself slap bass from the ground up, never had a teacher. Just wondering if the rest of you had a similar time |

| I have taken lessons and of course practised on my own (and with bands). I am all for teachers. Why invent the wheel again? |

When I first got my bass I self-taught myself for 6 months. Got lessons, fixed up some technique, quit lessons. Another 6 months later I got 'em again, and have had them since. In my lessons I just do theory stuff usually. And of course I'm always practicing at home a ton, teaching myself more. This site helped me a lot. _________________ Hey. |

Way to be, thats also what I did. I think joining a band is the ultimate way to learn your instrument. |

Self taught... but would consider lessons even after 14 years of playing... if only for more theory! _________________ Alright!

I was lucky to have an experienced bassist act as my mentor when I started playing. I learned in a few months what would have taken a couple of years or more to learn. As a result I was playing professionally in one year, and was working as a paid session player in 4 years. There are bassists out there that will help you, at no cost. They will accelerate your learning curve tremendously.
Search out some help, hang out at music stores and open mike sessions and clubs, and show your desire to learn. Ask, and you shall receive.

With a pc there are some starter good methods:
Emedia Bass Method
is a set of interactive lessons, quite well done
Guitar pro
Is a software:
you download the song you want to study from http://www.mysongbook.com/ then you open with Guitar pro and U see everything U need to play the song, every instruments, also the bass, U can exclude bass or solo, U see where put your fingers on the nec, realtime.
enjoy
