I am currently switching up my rig from using a BOSE stick and a pedal to using a cab and head set up. I am purchasing the AMPEG SVT 410 HLF cab tomorrow. However, I need some serious advice about the head. Will an Ampeg B2R (350 watts) head be enough for that? You can check out my style of music at www.luciddissent.com. Like I said, I have been using a BOSE stick monitor/pa system but I'm switching up now. Also, can anyone shed some light on the solid state amps vs tube amps? I appreciate any form of advise you can give me.

The B series heads are good and can hold them selves well but I'm saying if you want a B series go for the B5R for the extra output features and EQ but my advice is to pick up an SVT series head; You can pick up an SVT350H solid state head for about the same price as the B2R and you get a real classic ampeg sound in a solid state; Valve amps can be a real hassle and end up costing a fortune in replacement valves and as you have to change the power valves every year and the pre amp valves every 18 months and also with the solid state amps you get reliability so I'm saying go solid state.

I went with the hybrid SVT-3Pro. All tube pre-amp and solid state power amp. I am very happy with it. It has a 450 watt RMS @ 4 ohm power amp.
The SVT-3Pro would be an excellent amp to add to your cab. It is very similar to the B2R except it has the tube pre-amp which adds a lot of warmth to the tone. |
