Looking for opinions here.

What is the smoothest to the touch, round wound string you've come across? I'm looking for the round wound that comes closest in feel to a flatwound.

hey bud - try d'addario 1/2 rounds. i use 'em on my fretless so they don't tear up my fingerboard, round wounds ground flat -- superb!!

Thankyou kindly.

At the moment I'm using GHS Precision Flats. Awesome strings!! Way smooth. The Brite Flats are good ones too.

Planning on putting some 'new to me' strings on my second bass. Want to fool around with some new stuff.

Thanks!!

1/2 rounds are great strings and I've used them on other basses. The ones I have now on my 1981 G&L L-1000 are the original strings and they are just broke in right. You probably don't want to wait 26 years though. Razz Rolling Eyes

You might also try the SIT brand Power Flats, they are supposed to be great strings.

The half-rounds may be the best choice for the flatwound feel if that is your goal.

I have some SIT Silencers that are somewhere in-between Lower tension than the D'addario but not as flat feeling. For people who want roundwound sound but something easier on the frets or fretboard.
